Chiaki Saito is a Japan-based artist who creates multi-layered spatial installations with paper fibers, crystallization, and woodblock printing. Her recent work World bird’s-eye view, which she has been working on since 2015, is created with water-based woodblock printing to give the impression that the viewer is peeking through clouds, using distinctly non-Western shading techniques. Her meditations on femininity, nature, and entropy offer a window into a sublime landscape tinged with disaster. In her Los Angeles residency, Saito would like to experience new perspectives and exchange ideas with people living in different environments, to research future works.
